Everyone talks about preparing for a move. It’s a big deal! There are a lot of things to do and a limited amount of time… but the work doesn’t stop on moving day.
When you get to your new home, there will be several things you need to do.
What Comes After Moving Day?
The first thing you should check will be pretty obvious in winter and summer. Does the heating or A/C work? The second you walk in the door, you should know.
Remember that essentials box that you packed? Now is the time to get it out. This will have all of the paperwork and items that you need right away. If you haven’t packed it yet, do it now.
Now is also the perfect time to start cleaning the house. It’s a blank slate, so take your cleaning supplies and get to work. Prioritize each room so that you don’t waste time on a room you won’t need yet. The kitchen is usually the most important and takes the longest, so it’s not a bad idea to start there.
Next, you’ll want to check to make sure that all of the appliances and plumbing work. You don’t want to figure out that you have a problem when you need to use the shower or come home from the grocery store with refrigerated items.
Then, set up all the necessary furniture. The most important piece is the bed. You need someplace to sleep! Your moving company usually offers to set up your bed frame for you, so take advantage of that service is possible.
As you get settled in, you’ll move stuff around, find things that need fixing or adjusting and that’s fine! Getting the essentials done first will help you settle in your house with a little more ease.
